Arboricultural Services

Tree Felling.

While Landscape Services will never pull a healthy tree down if we can help it, we do appreciate there are some instances where a tree is no longer safe enough to remain where it is. In those instances, the tree will be felled.

Tree felling is the process of removing a tree from its location. This ordinarily happens one of two ways, depending on the surrounding space and environment;

The first is to dismantle the tree bit by bit, removing individual branches from the main trunk and lowering them in a controlled way to minimise impact to those moving or working around the tree. The second is the use of a chainsaw to either fell a tree from ground level – space permitting – or to fell the tree in large sections, like a large reverse Jenga.

Tree felling is a very specialised service and as such requires a large amount of care with regards to health and safety and permissions. Our qualified arborists can assist and advise with TPO, planning, traffic management and tree inspections as required.

Professional tree felling services

Tree felling, also known as tree cutting or professional tree removal, is the process of cutting down a tree and removing it from its location. Whilst trees provide numerous benefits - shade, oxygen, and aesthetic appeal among them - they can sometimes become a problem. For commercial businesses trees that are too close to buildings, power lines or other infrastructure can become a liability, risking damage to property or creating safety hazards for employees and customers.

At Landscape Services, we offer professional tree felling services to assist commercial businesses with specific issues related to trees on their property. Our team of experienced arborists will provide a free site visit to assess the situation and determine the most efficient and safe method of removing the tree, whilst taking into consideration any environmental concerns or regulations that may be in place.

Whether the issue is a dead, dying or overgrown tree, or a tree or root system that is causing damage to your property, we are equipped to handle the job with the utmost care and attention to detail. When can trees be felled?

Trees can be felled at any time but are most likely to be felled for safety purposes when they are dead, dying, diseased, damaged, or pose a risk to people or property. Here are some situations where a tree should be considered for felling:

  • The tree is dead or dying: Dead trees are a significant safety hazard because they no longer have the structural integrity to keep them standing, and as such can fall without warning. A dying tree may look healthy externally but still pose a significant threat, which is why we recommend regular inspections of all trees on your property to greatly reduce this risk.
  • The tree is diseased: If a tree is infected with a disease that cannot be treated, it may be necessary to fell it to prevent it from spreading to other trees.
  • The tree is damaged: Trees can sustain damage due to storms, high winds, construction work or human behaviour. If a tree has sustained significant damage to its trunk or branches, it may need to be felled to prevent it from collapsing.
  • The tree poses a risk to people or property: Trees that are leaning dangerously, have large cracks or have root systems that are undermining foundations are likely to cause harm to people or property.

It's essential to hire a qualified arborist to evaluate the tree's health and recommend the best course of action. In some cases, the tree may be saved through pruning, cabling, or other treatments. However, in situations where the tree poses a significant risk, felling may be the only option.

Almost all tree fellings can be avoided with routine care, and for all the reasons listed above a regular tree inspection schedule can allow you to keep the trees on your property safe, healthy and compliant. Find out more about tree inspections here.
